Demography

There are very few permanent Jewish residents in Lesotho, just a few temporary workers in the capital city, Maseru.

History

The first Jew to arrive in Lesotho was a German soldier, Moritz Leviseur, fighting  in the 2nd Boer War 1864-65.

European communities (Jewish people among them) then began to establish themselves in South Africa and surrounding territories, including Lesotho.

Jewish immigration increased during and after WW2.

Community Life

Judaism is not practiced communally in Lesotho and there is no community base. Any practice is individual.
